About Us

A Welcoming Church with Deep Roots and Open Doors

Taylorsville First Christian Church has been a part of the Spencer County community since the early 1930s. What began as a small country church has grown into a vibrant, welcoming congregation grounded in faith, tradition, and love for our neighbors.

We are part of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), a denomination founded right here in Kentucky with a mission to move beyond divisions and unite people around the teachings of Christ. We believe in reading and interpreting the Bible together as a community, without one voice being the final word. Our pastor is a guide, not a gatekeeper, and our worship is centered on learning, growing, and remembering why we follow Jesus.

Meet Our Pastor

Pastor Bill Dunning

Pastor Bill has served Taylorsville First Christian Church since 2004, growing alongside this faithful community through life’s joys, challenges, and spiritual milestones. His leadership is rooted in compassion, humility, and a deep love for people, and it shows in every handshake, sermon, and shared moment.

Born and raised in Clinton, Missouri, Pastor Bill felt a call to ministry at just 12 years old during a church camp experience. He went on to earn his degree in Religion and Philosophy with a Pre-Ministry focus from Culver-Stockton College, where he began his first pastoral role at Emerson Christian Church. He later served at Broadway Christian Church in Columbia, Missouri, a large Disciples of Christ congregation, where his time in youth ministry helped shape his life-long approach to relational, people-centered ministry.

Since coming to Taylorsville, Pastor Bill has led with honesty, a sense of humor, and a deep belief that ministry is always about the people. As he puts it, "We've shared good times and bad, good sermons... and bad, and through it all, we’ve grown together as the people of God."

Pastor Bill lives in Taylorsville with his wife Angie and their three children Noah, Jillian and Lillie. Together, they embody the kind of faith-filled presence that makes this church feel like home.

Our Worship Style

Our worship is traditional, heartfelt and sincere. We still sing from the hymnal, and while we include occasional contemporary music, we keep our services rooted in a more classic church experience. No flashing lights, no fog machines, just genuine faith, Scripture-based preaching, weekly communion, and a focus on Christ.

Everyone Is Welcome Here

Whether you’ve been in church all your life or you’ve been away for a while, you are welcome here. Our doors are open to everyone, no judgment, no pretense. We are especially proud to be a church that welcomes those who’ve felt out of place elsewhere, including members of the LGBTQ+ community and others who have been hurt or excluded by religion in the past.

More Than a Church, A Family

We believe in showing up for each other. From community outreach events to simply checking in on one another during the week, our church is a family in the best sense of the word. We’re not perfect, but we care deeply, we listen, and we make room for all.

If you're looking for a church home where tradition meets openness, and where faith is lived out with humility and heart, we hope you'll visit us soon.
